Initial Research

A Visual Guide

Pee can splash up to 3 feet from point of contact, based on various studies.

Ideation

With every project I try to add something new into my workflow. For this project I learned how to use Gravity Sketch, a VR sketching tool. This allowed me to manipulate the form easily and see how the design interfaces with human proportions.

Comparison of two sketchbooks showing different stages of design sketches for a curved urinal wall. The left shows a rough black pen drawing on dotted paper, the right shows a more refined colored sketch with labels on white paper, with a red pen placed nearby.
The word 'CREATE' written in stylized, sketch-like black font on a white background.

Final Form

I used Blender to create my final form, because I realized I would not always have access to Keyshot. The initial design was created to fit internal plumbing, but I later realized it would be better fitted with a waterless system. So if I were to revise this urinal I’d rework the form to be sleeker.

Two modern, white, geometric-shaped chairs with rectangular cutouts in their backs against a neutral background.
Three white ceramic or porcelain objects of different sizes, each with dimensions labeled. The left object is 30 inches tall, 14 inches wide, and without a specified depth; the middle object is 12 inches wide and 14 inches tall with a hollow center; the right object is 17 inches wide and 30 inches tall with a sloped top.

Internals
